Huws Gray Cup Round Up

The weekend was full of cup action with all Huws Gray Alliance teams plying for progression in the Huws Gray Cup. Here, we take a look at the scores with comment from Caernarfon’s Iwan Williams and Denbigh Town’s Gareth Thomas.

07/10/16                                                                                                                                                 Denbigh Town 2-1 Mold Alex

Scorers:  Denbigh: Kyle Scarisbrick (38) Alan Bull (90) Mold Alex: Andreas Economides (75)

After the game, Gareth Thomas gave his thoughts to Clwb Pel Droed:

“A much needed win. We dominated game 1st half, then we allowed Mold back in the game 2nd half. We got a huge slice of luck when they missed the penalty and thankfully we got a late winner which can hopefully kick us on now.”

07/10/16                                                                                                                                         Prestatyn Town 2-0 Ruthin Town

Scorers: Alec Williams (P) (31) James Stead (90+2)

8/10/16                                                                                                                                                           Caersws 0-3 Caernarfon

Scorers: Paul Grant OG (44) Elliot Jones OG (71) Kevin Lloyd (82)

Following the win from which two own goals helped Caernarfon on their way, Iwan Williams spoke to Clwb Pel Droed:

“Eventually it was a good performance at Caersws. We started slowly and didn’t get our passing game in motion until late on in the first half. We had a couple of refereeing decisions go against us and began to put pressure on ourselves as frustration was starting to creep in – but once we got the first goal right on the stroke of half time there was only going to be one winner.

In the second half we were a completely different side. Caersws made us work hard but I felt we were in control for large periods. If I had to be critical I’d say we still need to work on being more ruthless in front of goal but on the flip side it was our third clean sheet in five. We’ve now won six and drawn one out in the last seven games, so we’re starting to show consistency which is a good sign.”
