Goodwick United 2 Hakin United 0 (FAW Trophy Round 3)

Goodwick United overcame local rivals Hakin to book a place in the Fourth Round of the FAW Trophy, and will be the only Pembrokeshire side in the last 32 of the national cup competition.

The north Pembrokeshire side put their visitors from Milford under early pressure but both sides struggled to break down their opponents’ defences in a first half punctuated by numerous fouls and stoppages.  Goodwick got their noses in front after 23 minutes when Sean Seymour-Davies rose at the far post to finish off a set piece move with a headed goal.  Hakin felt they should have had a penalty just before half-time, when a cross seemed to strike a home defender’s arm, but the referee waved play on.

Goodwick had to weather sustained Hakin pressure in the second half but their defence managed to keep out everything the Vikings could throw at them.  With the score at 1-0, the game remained tense, but Goodwick were able to breathe more easily after Jonny Horgan raced clear down the right and extended their lead with less than a quarter of an hour left.  It was Goodwick’s turn to have a penalty shout turned down in the closing stages, when Horgan appeared to be tripped, but they were content to settle for a 2-0 win and a place in the hat for Round 4.
