PMQ: Dean Morris previews Afan Lido vs Cwmbran Celtic

With most Welsh League sides out of action this weekend, Afan Lido and Cwmbran Celtic arranged for the fixture to be played today to avoid a fixture pile-up after two weeks of cup action.

We spoke to Cwmbran Celtic manager Dean Morris as he looked ahead to the fixture against Afan Lido tonight at the Marston’s Stadium.

You sit fifth in the league, are you matching your pre-season ambitions?

“We are happy where we are, we should have more points on the board but we are doing okay, considering the money in the league this year and the fact we don’t pay anything, that’s our motivation.”

Chris Ham departed the club a few weeks ago, how have you reacted since to his departure?

“We wish Chris Ham well, he was offered a great deal and he couldn’t turn it down really, he will be missed but we just get on with things. It’s a chance for someone to step up and Adrian Macquire has done great in doing that.”

Afan Lido are a team with momentum behind them, how do you stop a team that have are on an unbeaten streak at the moment?

“Afan Lido are in a rich vein of form at the moment. They have some great players and are dark horses for the title.”

Of course Josh Bull was a welcome return to the squad after his summer departure, how important is he to the squad?

“Aberyswyth didn’t give Josh Bull a chance which is a shame, he’s certainly good enough but him coming back was certainly good for us.”

Away from home on a Friday, does that ever hamper your preparation for a game, playing at 19:45 on a Friday rather than the traditional 14:30 kick off on a Saturday?

“It doesn’t really matter what day or time a game is played, it’s a game of football with 2 teams and hopefully we can get something away at Lido.”
