Nathaniel MG Cup Preview: Nomads and TNS to do battle again

gap Connah’s Quay Nomads and The New Saints will replay their Nathaniel MG Cup semi final on Tuesday night at Deeside after it was abandoned after 73 minutes due to fog last week.

With free admission to all spectators on offer, attendees will hope the game mirrors last week’s encounter which saw Nomads and TNS go toe-to-toe for a place in the final against Barry Town United.

Both sides fielded strong sides, and the game reflected this with even play up until 30 minutes when Wes Fletcher headed TNS in front. This lead was held for just a few minutes however, with Nick Rushton equalising for Nomads.

Pouncing on a defensive mistake from TNS, Les Davies deflected a Matty Owen shot into the goal to send Nomads 2-1 up at half time in what was a promising first half from Connah’s Quay against a still unbeaten Saints.

The second half saw a similarly close contest, with The New Saints equalising via Chris Seargeant only for the game to be called off on 73 minutes just as the tie looked to be going down to the wire.

Andy Morrison would later call the abandonment a ‘missed opportunity’, with Connah’s Quay close to inflicting TNS’ first loss in all competitions so far this season.

This time round they will look to challenge TNS again, coming into the game off the back of a 2-1 loss at Newtown whilst TNS equalled Bangor’s British record of 15 consecutive wins against Carmarthen on Friday night.

Although Nomads and TNS will want their place in the final confirmed, both will be wary of Friday night fixtures against Rhyl and Airbus respectively.

The semi final commences at Deeside on Tuesday 22 November for a 7:45pm kick off.
