MATCH  REVIEW: Ynysygerwn 0 Chepstow Town 1

West met East in the congested middle area of the Welsh League Third Division table as Chepstow Town travelled all the way from the English border to the outskirts of Swansea to face Ynysygerwn.

They returned home with all three points thanks to a Lewis Bamford strike just before half-time.

On a well-maintained surface at the Llandarcy Academy of Sport, the two sides played plenty of creative football but proved to be as evenly matched as their league positions suggested.

A half of very few clear chances seemed destined to end goal-less until a long ball from the Chepstow defence caught Ynysygerwn out, and Lewis Bamford raced away to steer the ball past home keeper Liam Sheehy.

Ynysygerwn found it hard to turn second-half possession into attempts on the visitors’ goal, their patient moves building from defence invariably coming up against a well-marshalled Chepstow defence.  With time running out, and the home side throwing caution to the wind, Chepstow should have added to their lead in the closing stages, but twice keeper Sheehy made improbable saves to keep the match alive until the final whistle.
