TOBY JONES: “CAERNARFON IS A GREAT CLUB WITH GREAT FANS”

Summer signing Toby Jones has been amongst the goals this season for the Lilywhites and on Saturday he will come up against his former side Caernarfon Town.

Jones joined Caernarfon back in 2015 from now Welsh Premier League side Llandudno, where he scored 13 goals, contributing to Llandudno’s Huws Gray Alliance league title. Jones will know the threat that Caernarfon pose more than anyone and has a prediction on how the game will pan out.

“I’m really looking forward to the game, I’m expecting it to be played at high intensity with a lot of pace on the pitch. Both clubs have a great following so I think the atmosphere will be electric on the night.”

The last time Caernarfon Town and Rhyl met, Rhyl ran out 4-1 winners.

“Of course, no game repeats itself. I think both sets of teams will have various different players from what there was during the last fixture, also with it being the Welsh Cup it adds to the match. I’m hoping we come out with a similar result and push on to the next round.”

Despite only being at Caernarfon for a year, Toby compared his time at the Oval to his time at Bellle Vue.

“I’m injury free at Rhyl, during last season I had a lot of problems with my ankle (ligament) This season so far I have been injury free, touch wood.”

The timing of the cup couldn’t come as a better time as a week later, the league season begins again as Phase Two of the Welsh Premier League begins, Jones feels that a victory in this fixture could bode well for the remainder of the season for Rhyl.

“With it being the Welsh Cup it’s a huge fixture for the club, and getting the result will help build confidence for the first fixture in the second phase.”

Jones finished on the note of praising his former side and is hopeful of a warm reception from the fans who chanted his name.

“I am it’s a great club with great fans, I’m hoping it will be a warm welcome but that’s not always the case in football, I’m thinking it might be a mixed bag if I’m honest, who knows?!”
