Haseldin in hope for a derby win

Y Clwb Pel Droed recently caught up with Holywell Town manager John Haseldin ahead of his side’s weekend clash away at Mold Alex FC.

With a feisty Flintshire derby expected, Haseldin will be hoping his in form side can clinch a fourth consecutive win.

Although postponements have hampered the league’s progress at times,  Holywell have remained in their normal playing routine.

“We have trained as normal, games have been called off which is frustrating especially when your playing well but we have just got to make sure lads stay sharp and prepare for next game best we can.”

Holywell can go into the game as arguable favourites due to their form, but Haseldin still expects a tough challenge.

“We are all looking forward to the next game,of course we are expecting a tough game it’s a derby away from home and they are fighting for points but confidence is high with us and we will prepare the same as if we were playing a team at the top. League positions don’t really come into it once the game starts. We will be up for it as we want to keep our own run going.”

As a player-manager, Haseldin has had game time with Holywell’s reserves recently and acknowledges the B team may find themselves with opportunities to play in the Huws Gray Alliance.

“I play when I can for our reserves to help them out and show my support for them best I can, they are a good group mainly from ages 16-21 and I’m sure a few will certainly get a chance with us before to long.”

Sixth in the table but with plenty of football to play, the Holywell boss wants the good form to continue.

“We have had some great results lately, February was a good month for us and we have got to continue that good form now till the end of the season.”

Holywell are boosted by the return of key players, back from both holidays and injury.

“Matty Hurdman is back from Holiday. Shaun Tuck, Gareth Sudlow and Mark Winslade will return to squad from injury.”
