Sudbrook building solid foundations says Cann

Sudbrook are building well as they seek their second promotion in three years says manager Daryl Cann as they lead the Gwent County League Division Three.

The Snakes could be playing just two divisions away from the Welsh League in what would be a very successful five years for Cann’s men and he says that the rise through the leagues have seen the club attract higher quality players each season.

2 promotions in 3 years is a big statement! It all helps in attracting players and building solid foundations to progress through the leagues! The strength in our squad! The lads we’ve attracted over the years have been brilliant – we couldn’t of done it without them!

On Saturday, they will entertain third placed side West of St Julians who sit third in the division, a win could really do Sudbrook favour in their quest for promotion and it seem everything is going their way with no worries on team selection.

“There are no injuries or suspensions to worry about thankfully. In our previous seasons when we’ve had a couple of players missing we would struggle – this season we have players who slot straight in!

It would definitely help if we beat West of St Julians, they are a really good team and we expect nothing less than a hard fought battle this Saturday. It will be the same for Nantyglo at home & Machen away I’m sure! We’ve got a tough run in!”

Luckily Sudbrook will be able to call upon in form Keenan Perrett but Cann isn’t singling out players and says all of his squad have been stand out performers.

“Keenan has been one of our best players yes but he’s on a shortlist of about 8 players to pickup Player of the Year this season! The squad we’ve got is the best this club has ever had – one lad can’t do it all on his own!”

Last week, Sudbrook lost to higher opposition Clydach Wasps in the Cup but Cann says that the club aren’t looking to bounce back from it and that the focus was all on the reserve side as they also seek promotion.

“Not at all – the club had bigger things to focus on last Saturday with our 2nd Team needing 3 points for promotion! The 2nd Team manager was given his pick of any player.”
