Quinn aiming to continue Pontyclun momentum

Pontyclun manager Barry Quinn has said that he hopes the club can continue their momentum after winning promotion back to the Welsh League.

The former Welsh League side booked their place back in the fourth tier of Welsh football after beating 2nd placed Penydarren away from home in a 3-2 victory.

“It’s a great feeling, to get the job done in the manner we did. Everyone involved at the club is absolutely delighted. We have been at the top of the league for quite a while, but to now achieve our goal is fantastic.”

It will have been two weeks since Pontyclun will have played their last game but come Saturday, Pontyclun will be presented with the trophy and Quinn is hopeful of a big crowd to celebrate Pontyclun’s success.

“It is worth the wait and I think we should get a decent crowd for it, to celebrate the achievement.”

There were scenes of jubilance being shown on social media as players uploaded videos and photos of their win. Quinn has put Pontyclun’s promotion and title win down to the togetherness in the squad.

“The togetherness within this group of players is exceptional and without any doubt has been a major factor for us this year. I can’t speak highly enough of how well they have all bought into the aims we set for the season & supported each other throughout – a pleasure to manage.”

To gain promotion, Pontyclun had to overcome 2nd placed Penydarren who had Welsh League ambitions of their own.

“The result & performance at Penydarren (given what was at stake) were really pleasing. Mathematically, we only needed a draw, but we would never set up just for a draw. It was a hard-fought game, as you would expect, but our lads were magnificent & worthy winners in the end.”

Just a few weeks earlier, Quinn spoke of the clubs ambitions and now he says the aim will be for the club to secure their place in the league.

“The ambition for us going back into Welsh League Division Three, will be to continue the momentum we have built and see where it takes us. Another promotion of course would be fantastic, we know how competitive the division is, so who knows.”

The Pontyclun manager put a thanks out to everyone involved with the club this season, thanking the supporters who have attended all the games throughout the season.

“I speak for all the players & management team when I say a huge thanks to everyone who has supported us this year. We have a tremendous following, regularly outnumbering the home supporters when we travel to away games. The players have asked me to pass on their thanks to all those who give up their time to support the team at our games. Hopefully, we can give them more to cheer about next season too.”
