Caersws appoint former forward Marc Griffiths after Evans stands down

Caersws’ have appointed former captain Mark Griffiths as their new first-team manager after Graham Evans stood down.

The Bluebirds were relegated to the Mid Wales League after their 13th placed finish in the Cymru Alliance last season.

“The priority will be for the Club to immediately bounce back after last seasons relegation,” said a statement by Caersws.

With indications that the majority of players are likely to stay, together with the return of some familiar faces and some new targets identified by Mark, we have reacted swiftly and believe he is the right person for the difficult challenge ahead.”

Evans has left his role after five years in charge at the Mid Wales club but will remain as General Manager, which see him involved with the day-to-day running of the club.

Assistant manager Dylan McPhee has also left the club, with him expected to be appointed as manager of a Mid Wales League team.

The news comes after club custodian Graham Jones called it a day, after playing a total of seventeen years for the club. Jones bowed out after beating Guilsfield in the Central Wales Cup Final.

Departing manager Evans paid great tribute to Jones: “We became great friends over the 17 years and I’ll certainly miss not having his wisdom, knowledge and loyalty in the dressing room and on the pitch.

“Jonesy’s loyalty and passion for the club has been second to none since joining in 2001 and we all remember him playing an integral part in us securing our European Intertoto Cup place against Bulgarian side Marek Dupnitsa in 2003.

“He has been a great club man, leader and captain.”
