Neville Powell: Bangor City part company with legendary Citizens boss

Bangor City have sacked their manager Neville Powell after nine years in charge of the North Wales club.

Powell joined the club in 2007, after 14 years in charge of Connah’s Quay, however just weeks before the Welsh Premier League season was set to start, Powell has been relieved of his duties.

Bangor have had some of their most successful years under the guidance of the former Tranmere player. In his first three years, he led the club to three successive Welsh Cup victories before winning the Welsh Premier League the following season.

However, in the next three years they finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th respectively before they suffered a sharp decline in 2014-15 and 2015-16 in comparison, as they finished 19th and then 9th.

The club were taken over last month and the new consortium have relieved the 52 year-old of his duties, citing a “difficult pre-season build up”.

Bangor will now begin their search for a new manager.
