Rhayader Town: Jason Samuel and Gareth Hughes take joint charge

Huws Gray Cymru Alliance side Rhayader Town have announced that Jason Samuel and Gareth Hughes will manage the club in a joint effort with Matt Lewis assisting as coach.

Samuel who guided Knighton Town to second place last year in the Spar Mid Wales League is a local lad who has also managed at Builth Wells and Knighton.

Gareth Hughes is a born and bred Rhayader man and began his playing career with Wrexham, before featuring for his current side Rhayader in the top flight of Welsh football, he has also played for Newtown and Aberyswyth. The 35 year old is still a highly valuable player and was the assistant manager last season.

Matt Lewis another local boy started with Coventry City before moving to Cardiff City and Team Bath before returning back to Wales with Newtown in the Welsh Premier League. At Youth Cup level he also played in an FA Cup Youth final in 1999 and is a former Welsh schoolboys international.

Graham Clarke, chairman of Rhayader Town had this to say on the managerial appointment.

“Rhayader Town are aiming to be the shining light for young local players providing them a platform to play football and to be coached at the highest standard possible. We feel with the management team in place that the future in mid Wales will have a management team that will aim to produce the next generation of stars.”

Rhayader Town who spent five seasons in the top flight of Welsh football will hope this appointment will help spur them on to return to their glory days.
