Bangor City: Andy Legg named as Neville Powell’s successor

Bangor City have announced that former Llanelli Town manager Andy Legg is to become their new manager, replacing long standing manager Neville Powell who was sacked last week.

After the surprise sacking of  Powell Bangor City fans were left rather shocked. Questions arose to whether or not it was the right decision with the season only weeks away. However, stability has seemingly been restored as Bangor announce new manager Andy Legg.

His CV makes for an impressive read, with a successful career as a left wing / left back and also as a  manager. In a career spanning 24 years, Legg has played for numerous clubs including Swansea City, Birmingham and Cardiff. Well known for his monster throw ins, being able to throw over 30 meters with ease, Legg once held the record for the longest throw in at a staggering 44.6m. Legg also made 6 appearances for the Welsh National team between 1996-2001.

As a manager, he has taken the helm of two clubs; Hucknall Town and former Welsh Premier League champions Llanelli Town.

Legg’s most recent managerial position was at Llanelli Town. In 2011 Legg’s side beat the Citizens in the Welsh Cup Final 4-1 to give the club their first taste of Welsh Cup glory. During his time as Llanelli Town manager, they finished runners up two years in succession and runners up in the Welsh League Cup in the same year he guided the Reds to Welsh Cup glory.

However despite a strong CV, only time will tell whether Legg is the right man for the job, having been out of the game since his departure upon the High Court’s decision to wind up Llanelli Town.

His first task at Nantporth will be to shape the squad as he sees fit with the new season just two weeks away.
