Newport City: Welsh League approve Newport City u-turn

Newport City, formerly Llanwern AFC, have been given the go ahead to continue in the Welsh League after performing a U Turn on their decision to withdraw from Division Two last month.

In a surprise, yet welcomed decision from Newport City, the club decided to overturn their original decision to withdraw from the league last week. The U-turn came only days after they withdrew from the Welsh League, citing a lack of funds and players. Fortunately, the Welsh League have given them the green light to continue in the league.

This is positive news for not only those associated with Newport City, but also for the city itself. Having almost lost Newport Civil Service earlier this pre-season, it would have been a big blow to lose a club from the country’s third biggest city.

With an excellent ground and good facilities, it is a welcome sight that the club have reversed their plans to stand down from the league. Although the club are yet to move on from  the difficulties they previously faced, a new committee has been setup to help with the running of the club.

Whilst the future of the club is still somewhat under a cloud of uncertainty, the committee will be pleased with the league’s decision to allow them to continue in the Welsh League, as it is most certainly a step in  the right direction for the club on the brink of oblivion just two weeks ago.
