Bangor vs Bala: Match Report

Dan Nardiello’s second goal for Bangor City helped the Citizens to a 2-0 victory over Bala Town at Nantporth on Saturday to push Andy Legg’s side up to second place.

It was a crucial three points for the Citizens in the first Gwynedd derby of the season, and much needed following the defeat last weekend to the hands of Connah’s Quay. Bala’s underwhelming start to the campaign continued, and they currently sit seventh in the table with four points.

Bangor started the brighter of the two, and nearly took the lead but Alex Lynch did brilliantly to deny Gary Roberts’ goal bound effort. Bangor continued to pile on the pressure on Bala and got their reward in the 10th minute when Damien Allen fired a low shot past the former Wycombe shot stopper to give the Citizens the lead.

Bangor doubled their advantage on the 20th minute when Dan Nardiello capitalised on Stuart Jones’ error and cooly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to give the Citizens a two goal advantage. Bangor came close to a third when Henry Jones’ free-kick struck the post.

The Lakesiders changed things after the break when Mike Hayes and Ryan Wade came on, but it was to no avail. Bangor had several chances in the second period, and would have scored more if it wasn’t for Alex Lynch between the sticks.

Both teams’ attention will now turn to midweek with Bala facing Carmarthen and Bangor facing Newtown at Nantporth with both teams hoping to secure the three points.
