Match Report Chirk AAA vs Corwen FC
At Holyhead Road on Saturday, Chirk AAA looked to bring Corwen’s unbeaten start to a halt and successfully did so with a 2-1 win.
As many predicted, the game was very end to end and it took just six minutes for Chirk’s Louie Middlehurst to put them ahead after some quick play from the home side.
Chirk AAA’s lead would only last three minutes after some good work from Loz Jones, he crossed a perfectly weighed ball for Andrew Roberts to fire home, to pull Steve Crompton’s men level in the ninth minute.
Both sides probably felt they could have gone in at halftime with the lead. Rob Salisbury rattled the bar for Chirk and Nathan Davies fired over before half time for Corwen.
The second half started the same as the first, with an early goal from Chirk AAA’s Tom Freeman in the 48th minute. Freeman ran at the Corwen defence, went around his challenger and then hit a strike into the far corner that left the Corwen keeper stranded.
Chirk had their chances to finish the game off but missed a handful of chances.
Corwen searched for a equaliser to keep their unbeaten run in the league intact and they must have thought they got exactly that when sub Dewi Edwards hit a great strike that was heading into the bottom corner, only for Chirk keeper Zac Bebbington to make a great save.
In stoppage time, Chirk hit Corwen on the counter attack with the chance falling to sub Ryan Leightwood, whose shot at goal was tipped over by Gethin Williams before the referee blew for full time to give Chirk AAA maximum points.
Mark Holmes’ men will be looking to carry this momentum when they travel to Llanuwchllyn next weekend as Corwen FC will be looking to bounce back at home against Overton.
