Bellamy and French join Cambrian & Clydach
Welsh Football League Division One side Cambrian & Clydach Vale have signed Pen-y-Bont winger Ellis Bellamy and Taffs Well midfielder Richard French.
The pair were confirmed as Cambrian players on their official Twitter feed on Tuesday.
Ellis Bellamy is the son of former Wales international and Liverpool winger Craig Bellamy whilst Richard French has been at Merthyr Town and Newport County during his career.
Cambrian have played a total of thirteen youth players from the start of last season, so it is important to make sure there is a balance when players from afar make the move to the club.
Hughes, a former striker with Carrmarthen Town had no pre-season with the side, so his management team identified targets where experienced players would be there to give experience to the younger players. There is a balance in place though with an average of seven players from the Academy featuring for the side in league matches.
Unfortunately for the Tonypandy based side, the two will be unable to play in a top three clash on Saturday against first placed Caerau Ely.
Cambrian & Clydach manager Craig Hughes had this to say on the signing of the pair:
“Once we were given permission to speak to the lads, the rest came naturally. I sold the club to them and I knew both personally.
“Ellis has a real desire with a grounded attitude which is a massive trait that I look for in a player. He has great ball manipulation and a clever left foot. A real solid addition out wide for us.”
“French adds the experience and guile in such a key area. He’s strong, hard working, with a great touch and awareness. With a fantastic attitude.
