Daniel Jenkins, who was part of ‘The Pennies’ side that won the FAW Trophy and promotion to Division 2 has rejoined the club, after departing last summer.
Speaking to the Abergavenny Town FC Facebook page, Jenkins spoke on what made him leave and what brought him back to the club, who are 12th in Division Two.
“I made the decision not to re-sign in the summer due to personal terms and a lack of self-belief really but I’m hoping I can regain my form from the previous years and continue to achieve great height with the club.”
In terms of his own targets for the season, Jenkins wants to start where left off. He was a goalscorer in the FAW Trophy Semi-Final as they beat Llandudno Junction 4-1 last year.
“I have always aimed to set high stands for myself so a target of twenty plus goals is my own personal challenge but the main focus is helping the team get the wins they need.”
The club released a statement on the signing.
“The club is extremely excited to announce the return of Dan Jenkins after a short spell away. Dan was an important component to the success of the team since is reformation in 2014 and has played a big part in Abergavenny’s journey into Welsh League football.
He has been a firm fan favourite for some time and his return to Pen Y Pound will only bring confidence to the fans and the club of the potential we have to keep progressing in the League.
It’s certainly not Dan’s first rodeo, he’s aware that he won’t be given a golden ticket or free pass with the 1st Team: he’s prepared to earn his spot again and put in the hard work to reap the rewards. We’re very happy to have him back in blue and ready to put defenders and goalkeepers on edge as he’s done countless times before.”
Dan Jenkins’ first game back with Aber will be against Dinas Powys away from home this coming Saturday.
