Aberystwyth storm forces WPL postponement

Aberystwyth Town’s home fixture against Cefn Druids on Friday 18 November has been postponed, after strong winds knocked down two of Park Avenue’s floodlight pylons onto the pitch.

No rearranged date for the game is set, but an official statement on the club’s website said:

“Aberystwyth Town FC is in the process of rearranging this game and we will inform Supporters as soon as an alternative has been agreed with all stakeholders.”

The damage comes as a blow to the Seasiders, who only recently completed a refurbishment of Park Avenue with a new 3G pitch surface installed.

Park Avenue was one of many areas of Aberystwyth hit during the storm on Thursday morning, which battered the town with winds of up to 90mph.

The postponement means Matthew Bishop’s side will have to wait for their vital fixture against Cefn Druids, from which they hoped to claim a win and move into the top six.
