MATCH PREVIEW: JD Welsh Cup ; Caernarfon Town v Carmarthen Town

Caernarfon Town v Carmarthen Town

Welsh Premier outfit Carmarthen Town travel north to The Oval to take on Huws Gray Alliance side Caernarfon Town on Saturday in the JD Welsh Cup 3rd Round.

Caernarfon go into the game having won four out of the their last five games while Carmarthen are in north Wales for their second of three successive trips to north Wales having beat Bangor City on the road 2-1 last Saturday which secured the Old Gold 6th place in the Welsh Premier League. Next weekend (10th December) Carmarthen Town travel north to play Llandudno in the S4C live game.

In the lead up to the game both managers have spoken positively of the mutual respect they have for each other, Caernarfon Town’s manager Iwan Williams told Clwb Pel-Droed;

‘…We’re looking forward to welcoming Carmarthen Town to the Oval on Saturday which promises to be a great game.

We have been struggling for a consistent eleven of late and will be short on numbers again this weekend due to injuries, suspensions and ineligibility but one thing I can guarantee is our preparation will be second to none and that the team I field will give it their all.

We go into the game as underdogs but will enjoy the occasion and will hopefully cause an upset. I loved playing in the Welsh Cup and will make sure the players embrace the occasion. I have huge respect for Mark Aizlewood and his Coach Danny Thomas and speak to both regularly but one thing’s for sure, I will want to get one over on them on Saturday….’

Mark Aizlewood confirmed that the club have appealed the red card Lee Surman received on the weekend against Bangor City but Carmarthen are definitely without injured duo Jordan Knott and Luke Cummings. Aizlewood commented;

‘…Following the victory at Bangor our preparation for the massive Welsh Cup game at Caernarfon starts in earnest Wednesday evening with a fitness check on the squad as of late we have been very short on numbers. Definitely out are Luke Cummings and Jordan Knott but hopefully everybody else will be available including Lee Surman pending the outcome of his appeal against his red card.

When Caernarfon were in the Welsh Premier it was always a very difficult place to go to and get the result. I expect no different on Saturday with a big crowd anticipated behind the home team we will have to be at our very best to secure a result against Iwan Williams’s team who is a young up and coming coach with a good reputation…’

The game at The Oval kicks off at 2.30pm with extra time and penalties to decide who goes through to the 4th round if necessary.
