JD Welsh Cup Reaction: Upsets and drama in third round so far

The JD Welsh Cup third round is underway, with a host of quality games and shocking results already confirmed. 

All but one of the JD Welsh Cup third round fixtures have been played, with Ton Pentre to play Bangor City in a live S4C fixture on Sunday.

No less than three Welsh Premier sides were victims of upsets, with Carmarthen, Airbus and Llandudno exiting the competition at the hands of Carmarthen, Penybont and Goytre FC respectively.

A Les Davies hat trick sent Nomads into the fourth round draw by the skin of their teeth, with the Deeside club 2-1 down in the 90th minute only to seal victory with two last gasp goals.

Bala Town also avoided an upset with a 6-1 defeat of Caldicot Town, as did Aberystwyth who continued a good history against Holywell in the Welsh Cup, defeating them 2-0 at Park Avenue.

Although the round saw lower tier teams fare well overall, Corwen and Greenfield exited the competiton. Corwen were beaten 1-0 by Llanfair United with Greenfield defeated by Guilsfield 3-o.

Cardiff Met continued solid form at home, beating Porthmadog 4-0 at Cyncoed Campus. Rhyl were the biggest winners of the day, ensuring no upset from Penrhyncoch with a resounding 6-0 victory.

All winning teams will no doubt be watching Ton Pentre and Bangor City tomorrow, as the fourth round draw will be be made live following that game.
