Caernarfon Town created one of the upsets of the round as they beat Welsh Premier League side Carmarthen Town. Jamie Breese scored a brace as well as a goal from Darren Thomas.
After the game the Clwb Pel Droed got a post match reaction from Caernarfon manager Iwan Williams.
“Without being dis-respectful to Carmarthen I thought we were the better team from the first minute.
We had a game plan and executed it perfectly. We won every individual battle across the pitch and scored some great goals. We’re still hurting from last season but showed today why we should be competing in the Welsh Premier League.
We had done our homework, they hadn’t and it paid off. I’m extremely proud of every single player.
It was the perfect result to the game plan given. We can’t wait for the draw tomorrow.”
Before the game, Williams spoke to Marc Webber on the Welsh Cup podcast and mentioned that his mother is from Carmarthen, it was Iwan who will be able to boast the bragging rights in the Williams family for the time being.
“I rang my mother to gloat at the final whistle. She pretended she couldn’t hear me so will ring her again in the morning!”
After the match, Iwan took to social media, mentioning that yesterday’s win proved that Caernarfon are Premier League ready. I
“We will catch Prestatyn. They are a fantastic team with fantastic individuals but we will catch them. We are 6 points behind and haven’t clicked as of yet. We play them in two weeks and will look to overcome the defeat earlier in the season.”
On who he’d like to play in the next round?
This season was always going to be difficult but in that changing room we have heart. We did the club and the fans proud! Bring on Bangor 💛💚
