DAMIEN BROAD: IT’LL BE A TOUGH GAME BUT WE’RE GOING IN WITH OPTIMISM!
Pontypridd Town travel to Steboneath this evening as Llanelli entertain The Dragons.
Pontypridd Town coach Damian Broad spoke to us before tonight’s fixture.
Llanelli have yet to lose in all competitions this season, whilst Pontypridd have suffered just two defeats in the league this season. Llanelli sit top of the Division whilst Pontypridd are 4th, an impressive feat considering their promotion last year.
“We are very pleased with how we have adapted to life in Division Two, we hope we can push on in the new year. With that we have strengthened the squad in some key areas, we believe we can.”
Unfortunately for Ponty, their last two games at their home of Ynysangharad Park due to the weather playing a part, meaning that their last game was on the 26th November. Broad is aware of the conditions around Christmas time but preparations stay the same going into the Christmas break.
“I’m sure the weather will have a big part to play. Our last two home games have been postponed, we all know how Christmas periods in Wales will have lots of postponements.
We however, will be making sure we are training and working hard so that we are ready for our fixtures.”
Ponty have faced Llanelli twice already in both the League Cup and the Welsh Cup, drawing 2-2 as Llanelli progressed on penalties, whilst Llanelli then beat the Dragons 3-1 at their Steboneath home.
“We know what to expect from the two times we’ve played them. It’ll be a tough game no doubt but it’s one in which we are going into with real optimism.
The lads have been training really well and the new additions are now settling in. We are really looking forward to it.”
Of course, whenever a team plays Llanelli, the same question is always asked, how do you deal with the threat of Lee Trundle?
“Firstly you want to test yourself against the best, so hopefully he is available. He has shown this season what great talent he still has.
However like Llanelli showed earlier in the season, it’s not only Trundle we should be worrying about, they have quality players all over the pitch.”
This will be the penultimate fixture for both going into the Christmas break.
