DANNY BARTON: BUDGET WILL ALWAYS BE A FACTOR

Guilsfield travel to Huws Gray Alliance leaders Prestatyn Town in the Cup this Saturday, manager Danny Barton gives his pre-match thoughts.

We’re looking forward to taking on a top team. Strong all over and great going forward. Having said that, we didn’t do ourselves justice in the last outing so we will try and put a better 2nd half performance in. We know their weaknesses but no one has been able to exploit that as yet. A very good team in my opinion but beatable.

Three weeks ago Guilsfield lost to Prestatyn at home 3-0, Barton says that they have

“Lessons learnt – keep our discipline. We did great for 45 then lost our shape and discipline so important- we need to build from that.”

With a team like Prestatyn, they will always pose problems but Barton is positive for the game.

“They are a big team but if we can get behind them, that’s where I think we can cause problems – best form of defence is attack but we’re not naive. We have to be patient.”

As the season approaches the half way stage, the Guilsfield man feels the league’s quality has improved and that the club has dealt with that appropriately.

“The league is stronger each year and budgets are bigger. We deal with what we have available and I think we do okay and the club is a credit on and off the pitch!

Having said that, we have massively under achieved and behind where I think this team/club is capable of finishing. Injuries have not helped but our inconsistency is frustrating at times. We always try and are positive and that’s how we have to approach every game.”

In January, more players become available, Barton has some positions identified but knows that recruiting will be tough with a budget in place.

“If I had the pick of players and a better budget, I would strengthen. Players I would look to add quality would be a number 9 and a creative midfielder but I am a realist and budget will always be a factor.

If everyone is fit then we will be just fine. The lads I have available when fit I wouldn’t swap for anyone – but to win a league and challenge we need consistency and a little bit of quality!”
