Jamie McDaid joins Haseldin’s Wellmen
Former Bangor City and Caernarfon midfielder Jamie McDaid has joined Huws Gray Alliance side Holywell Town, after leaving Porthmadog earlier this month.
McDaid has already played for Porthmadog 16 times this season, but has left the club in order to join John Haseldin’s Holywell Town in the Huws Gray Alliance. Holywell have lost three strikers over the past three years to Welsh Premier League teams, and McDaid may see the opportunity of regular first team football as a stepping stone to the top flight.
The midfielder has been a regular feature in Port’s side this season, making 16 appearances and scoring eight goals in the process, as well as avoiding any cards from the referee this season.
The move has seen the youngster drop down the ranks as he leaves Porthmadog who reside in fourth plce with 35 points, and will be hoping he can fire his new club up the table and catch his former club, as they currently sit in eight place with 27 points from 18 games.
John Haseldin expressed his delight at the news that the club had captured McDaid.
For me, on his day he is one of the best attackers in this division, he is strong, quick and he scores goals.
It would have been easy for him to find a club with less travel but I’ve spoken to him a few times over the last 12 months and he knows how highly I rate him and what the club is all about, so I believe that was a big factor in him joining Holywell.
It hasn’t worked out as how he’d have liked at Porthmadog but we feel once he settiles in with us, he will be a brilliant addition to our squad.
Only time will tell if his decision to seek pastures new will prove worthwhile.
