Halliwell: We’re there to upset the party
Gresford boss Steve Halliwell has insisted his side go into their match against Prestatyn full of hope and belief they can get something out of the game, despite their recent performance and loss against Caersws.
The Gresford boss was disappointed to lose against Caersws but admits it’s a result that has been on the cards for his side.
“It was a terrible result for us, but one that has been coming, we missed Owen Roberts, our striker and top scorer, as his goals and work rate have been pivotal to the way we have been playing, we had to shuffle it about a bit which wasn’t ideal, we found ourselves 4-0 down which amazingly was when we decided to start playing the way we have been, but I can’t be too critical the boys have been superb since I came in.”
Despite the loss to Caersws on the weekend, the Gresford boss is optimistic going into the tough test against league leaders and title winners elect Prestatyn.
“Obviously sat away at Prestatyn is going to be a real test for me as a manager and the team as a group, if we do not respond from Saturday the champagne will be flowing without question, however this isn’t going to happen, I’m sure we can go there and cause them as many problems as they will us, we will respect them but be sure we’re there to upset the party!”
Halliwell admits his side go into every game with the aim of pickig up points and claims it’s been a dramatic season, and one where his players can be proud of their efforts.
“We’re looking to get points out of every game, I’ve a target in mind, if we get that then yes top 4 should be achievable, but to be honest, whatever happens from here on in it’s been a dramatic season for the club and one we can all hold our heads up high from and be proud of what we are doing.”
Despite the recent setback, the club were in tremendous form last month and the manager was duly rewarded for his work as he was named Manager of the Month for February and reveals his pride at receiving the award.
“It’s a real honour and one I’m happy to accept, this is a real tough league and every week is a battle, to get the wins we did was so pleasing and it’s a credit to the lads we have at the club for their performances that I receive this award!”
Halliwell’s side go into the game with a fully strength squad to choose from, however he has hinted that there may well be some changes from the poor performance and result at Caersws.
“No injuries or suspensions to report we will be turning up at Prestatyn with a full squad to choose from, however I’m sure there will be changed from Saturdays game v Caersws”
