Who is going up in the Mid Wales League?

With the top three teams in the Spar Mid Wales League all applying for promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance, which team will come out on top come the end of the season?

Rhayader Town currently sit top of Spar 1 with Berriew and Carno sitting not far behind. Rhayader currently have 57 points with Berriew only 4 points behind them, but Rhayader have a game in hand.

Rhayader have a dangerous threat in Tom Bethel. Bethel has been given a free role by Rhayader this year and it has seen him score vital goals but also provide key assists. He plays in the hole just behind the striker which makes it very hard for the opposition to pick him up.

Berriew have a great front man in Karl Seliaerts. So far this season he has scored 24 goals in 31 games, in all competitions, he is one of the reasons that Berriew have got such a high goal difference. They also have Richard Davies. Davies has been approached by a few clubs this season and it’s no wonder when he has scored 35 goals in 31 games, in all competitions. Any team with a strike force like his has to be pushing for promotion.

Although these two teams are both gunning for promotion, you can’t rule out Carno, they are 11 points off Rhayader but they have 2 games in hand and 7 points behind Berriew but have 3 games in hand over them. Carno’s main threat is Peter Rees, in the 32 games he has been involved in he has scored 35 goals managed to pick up 8 assists. He will be the player that could make the difference between 1st 2nd and 3rd.

Unfortunately he got sent off against Llanidloes in a 2-2 draw and is currently serving a 3 match ban, so this could be the defining point in Carnos season.

Not only do you need a deadly strike force, you need a solid back line to push for any title and all three teams have this with the amount of games they’ve lost this season, Rhayader have only lost 3 whilst Berriew have lost 4 and Carno only 2.

In a poll conducted on Twitter, where fans, players and managers were asked who would come out on top, many felt that Rhayader would be the ones to come out on top.

72% of 144 voters think that Rhayader will remain top of the leaue and gain promotion back up to the Huw Gray Alliance but nothing’s a guarantee and any thing can happen.
