MATCH REVIEW: Aberystwyth Town 0-4 Newtown

In a match that started well for Aberystwyth, Newtown beat the Seasiders 4-0 on Saturday at Park Avenue.

Aber started the brighter, and their first opportunity came in the second minute when Geoff Kellaway, when 1 on 1 with the Newtown keeper, shot right at the goalkeeper.

The first goal came in the 39th minute as Jason Oswell put the ball past Chris Mullock to put the Robins 1-0 up.

In the second half, Luke Borelli had an amazing effort deflect for a corner in the 52nd minute after a scrap for the ball in the box from an Aber corner.

In the 53rd minute, a minute after Borelli’s fantastic chance, Rushton scored to put Newtown 2-0 up after a good pass from Sutton, crushing Amber’s hopes of a win in the game.

Jason Oswell further ploughed misery into Aber’s hopes of getting back into the game by scoring his second goal  of the match in the 57th minute to put Newtown 3-0 up away from home.

Aber captain Luke Sherbon was dismissed in the 59th minute after a late tackle on Boundford. His dismissal piled the misery on what was a bad day for the Mid Wales outfit, and the defender will leave a gaping hole in the home side’s backline in what will be a testing few weeks for Mathew Bishop’s side.

Oswell completed his hat-trick in the 88th minute, in what put some space between Newtown and the relegation zone, but only further descended Aberystwyth towards uncertainty in the league this season.
