Barry Town United 11-0 Risca United: Five-star Barry hit Risca for 11 at Jenner Park

Barry Town United thrashed poor Risca United at Jenner Park to retain their five-point lead at the top of the Welsh League Division One table.

Barry Town United are just one win away from promotion to the Welsh Premier League after recording their biggest win since 1998.

Hat-tricks from TJ Nagi and Drew Fahiya, a brace from Jordan Cotterill as well as goals from Luke Cooper and Lee Baldock gave Barry their biggest win of the season.

Barry can now confirm promotion with a win over Goytre United at Jenner Park on Tuesday night – already relegated Risca United face Monmouth Town away from home in their final game in Welsh League Division One.

Match Report

Barry started brightly, and Jordan Cotterill was making a menace of himself in the early stages and it was he who won an early free-kick in a dangerous area.

Drew Fahiya was then brought down in his own half, and the challenge certainly had menace to it, but the referee failed to produce a card to the disbelief of the Barry supporters – Brad Jenkins was the man who committed the foul.

Drew Fahiya was getting a lot of space down the left-hand side, but instead of shooting, he decided to cross it and the chance went.

Barry were dominating the early stages against a Risca side who had already been relegated, and were doing just about everything apart from putting the ball in the back of the net.

From a corner, a goalmouth scramble ensued and it looked like Barry would take the lead, but somehow the score remained goalless.

Louis Gerrard then played a deliciously delicate ball into TJ Nagi, but his chip type shot faded just wide of Ben Fletcher’s post.

Fahiya continued to remain a threat, and a ball played into the box into the 28 year-old was excellent but unfortunately the angle was awkward and he was unable to convert his chance into the back of the net.

Luke Cooper was the next to test Fletcher from a Jordan Cotterill free-kick, but he was well up to the challenge and saved well.’

But from the resulting corner Barry were ahead deservingly through a Drew Fahiya header, thanks to another superb ball from Chris Hugh from the right-hand side.

Barry were soon two up just nine minutes later thanks to a fantastic run and finish Jordan Cotterill, a wonderfully taken goal from a man who’s only just come back from suspension.

From a rare attack Risca almost pulled one back – hitting the post, but Barry were 3-0 from a swift counter-attack.

TJ Nagi broke free, squared it to Drew Fahiya, and despite his effort bouncing into the ground, it found its way into the back of the net and Barry were in a commanding position with less than half an hour on the clock.

Cotterill almost added to his earlier goal with another mazy run, but his effort from just outside the box rose just over Ben Fletcher’s bar.

Fletcher looked like a bag of nerves in the Risca United goal, and was lucky no Barry players were running in when he spilled a cross from the right-hand side.

A thunderous effort from Jordan Cotterill almost found its way into the back of the net, but his effort agonisingly hit the post, before a Barry player followed it up, who also hit the post and it eventually went out for a goal-kick for Risca United.

Cotterill was becoming a real nuisance for Risca, and he drove another shot towards goal after expertly turning two Risca players but his effort was excellently put behind for a corner by Ben Fletcher.

Daniel Battle for Risca was quickly becoming public enemy number one following two reckless challenges, especially for the second challenge on Troy Greening.

As half-time approached Barry were awarded a penalty following a clumsy challenge from a Risca United player, and it was coolly converted by TJ Nagi.

Barry were 4-0 and they were in complete control of the game, and as the half-time whistle went Gavin Chesterfield would have been delighted with the way his players had gone about their business and how clinical his players had been up front.

Risca started a lot better than in the first-half and following a corner, Tom Berry had a chance but his header rose over Mike Lewis’ goal.

But Risca’s pressure was short lived and Barry would soon make it five, thanks to an emphatic finish from TJ Nagi, who was the second Barry player to score a brace following Drew Fahiya’s in the first-half.

Jordan Coterill would make it a hat-trick of braces as his header found its way past Ben Fletcher to make it six for Barry, and soon after TJ Nagi broke free but his effort was saved at point blank range from Fletcher.

Nagi would get his hat-trick in the 62^nd minute, though, finishing off a lovely flowing move to make it 7-0 and he would soon be withdrawn following his efforts, being replaced by Lee Baldock.

Fahiya would then get his hat-trick after more excellent work down the right-hand side from Chris Hugh, who flicked it up and it was headed home from Fahiya to make it 8-0 to Barry.

Substitute Tyrrell Webbe then put a free-kick narrowly over the bar, before breaking free but credit where it’s due, the substitute goalkeeper for Risca did incredibly well to put it behind for a corner.

But Barry would soon make it nine through a Luke Cooper header – it was clear they were showing no mercy, and a tenth goal for Barry would follow thanks to substitute Lee Baldock, and there was still 11 minutes left on the clock.

Tyrrell Webbe made it 11 for Barry as the game came to a close, following up Jordan Cotterill’s well saved shot.

The crowd urged Barry to get a twelfth, but it would remain at 11 in what was a five-star display from Gavin Chesterfield’s men.

Although it was Fahiya and Nagi who got hat-tricks for Barry, it was Cotterill who ran the show for Barry in the middle of the park after coming back from a two-game suspension.

He Took both of his goals incredibly well and dominated the midfield throughout.

Final Word

If there were any signs of nerves, they disappeared quickly in what was an exceptional performance from Barry Town United at Jenner Park.

It now means Chesterfield’s men are won win away from securing Welsh Premier League football next season and it could be sealed on Tuesday night against Goytre United.

Although Risca United were already relegated, this was definitely a statement from Barry Town United that they want to get the job done as soon as possible, however the game on Tuesday won’t be easy – last week Barry succumb to a 1-0 loss to the same team – Goytre united.
