Breaking: Bala Town triumph in JD Welsh Cup final
Bala Town FC have won the JD Welsh Cup in a shock 2-1 victory over The New Saints this afternoon.
After a goalless first half in which Bala goalkeeper Ashley Morris made a number of great saves to keep his side in the game, a Draper goal sent TNS ahead with half an hour to play.
The game looked as if it was going The New Saints way with a flat period of play following the goal, but an inspired substitution from Bala saw the oncoming Jordan Evans have a shot deflected to go past Paul Harrison and send Bala level.
A sense of belief instilled Bala, who had never previously beaten The New Saints, and Kieran Smith put his side on the brink of history with a headed goal on 85 minutes.
A shaky end to game followed with Morris pulling off yet more saves to deny a desperate TNS side, but after holding their nerve for three additional minutes Bala were crowned JD Welsh Cup winners in a historic moment for the small town club and indeed Welsh football.
