Payne moves to Lilywhites from Nomads

Striker Shelton Payne has joined Huws Gray Alliance side Rhyl FC after leaving Connah’s Quay Nomads earlier this week.

The forward played for Port Talbot in 2008/09 and has experience with an array of North West clubs including FC United of Manchester and Salford City.

He joined Connah’s Quay in 2016, but was hampered by a ligament injury which saw him make just five appearances, scoring three goals.

The Cardiff-born striker joins Rhyl as the club seek promotion back into the Welsh Premier League after being relegated with an 11th placed finish this season.

Speaking to Rhyl’s official website, manager Niall McGuinness spoke of his confidence in Payne’s ability to help Rhyl return to the top flight.

“Shelton was straight to the point and after meeting together we were on the same wave length and the deal was done their & then. This for me shows the type of lad Shelton is and his understanding of how big of a club Rhyl FC is. Shelton will bring us a major attacking threat with him being able to play any attacking role and he has a good goal record which I’m sure with confidence he will bring to Rhyl he has blistering pace and is a tricky player and a defenders nightmare. “

“This signing shows the intent of what we are aiming for with the player stepping down from the WPL to work on achieving promotion with a big club.”

Payne becomes Rhyl’s first official signing of the summer with a host of players staying at the club from the current squad, whilst have Kristian Pierce and Josh Davies have joined Denbigh Town.
