High-scoring Oswell departs Latham Park

Newtown’s top goal-scorer Jason Oswell has departed the club to join Vanarama National League North side Stockport County.

He joins Stockport who currently ply their trade in the sixth tier of English football, although the club have previously plied their trade in the Football League.

The 24 year-old scored 22 league goals for the Robins this season, helping them to a play-off spot.

Speaking to the Newtown official website, manager Chris Hughes spoke of the departure of Oswell’s departure.

“It is disappointing to lose Jason, he has been a fantastic player for us in recent years, and his goals have been so valuable.

“He will be a big miss for us, has been a fantastic for myself and the club, but expressed desire to return to the English system.

“We wish him all the best in his new venture.”

Oswell was voted the official Welsh Premier League ‘Player of the Season’ a few weeks back at the awards ceremony.
