Cardiff Metropolitan recruit ex Cardiff defender Rees and Hereford captain Edwards

Cardiff Metropolitan University have made their first movements of the summer transfer window as they sign-up former Cardiff City developmental defender Dylan Rees and former Hereford captain Joel Edwards.

The pair join the club after being on the radar of Dr Christian Edwards and Cardiff Metropolitan University for some time.

Rees already has Welsh Premier League experience to his name as he signed for Aberystwyth Town back in January where he made a number of appearances for the Green and Blacks.

The 21 year-old spent almost a decade with Championship side Cardiff City where he played regular football for the U21 side before his release from the club last year.

Dr Christian Edwards who was speaking to Cardiff Met Sport TV summed up the two signings and was pleased to see them both join the Archers.

“Thankfully they’ve joined us for pre-season, they’ve signed and now there’s great competition in the squad and we’ve added depth.”

The former Swansea City and Wales international believes that the addition of Dylan Rees is one that brings a smart individual into the club and has already started to enjoy working with the fellow defender.

“Dylan has good pedigree, he understands the game of football but more importantly for us is that he’s a very smart, intelligent individual. He’s a pleasure to work with so that’s the most enjoyable thing for us.”

Joining Rees at the club is fellow full-back Joel Edwards who arrives in the South Wales Capital having been released by Southern League Premier side Hereford FC.

Edwards who was popular around the parts of Hereford having been born there was released by Peter Beadle back in May in what was a shock departure.

The 25 year-old has been at the club since the rebirth of the club back in 2014 and had previously played for the clubs former side Hereford United as well as Midland League Premier Division side Westfields.

The Herefordian who operates a a left-back led the club to six trophies in two years, including captaining his side out at Wembley Stadium in the 2015/2016 FA Vase final in which the Bulls lost 4-1 to Morpeth Town.

As well as Edwards and Rees joining, the club have also seen a number of the successful BUCS squad integrate with the first team squad.
