Llanelli Town boost strong squad with signing of former Swans winger Jones

Llanelli Town have added to their strong attacking squad by signing Wales Semi-Pro international Chris Jones.

The 27 year-old joins what is already an intimidating front-line with the likes of James Loveridge, Jordan Davies, Lee Trundle and Jordan Follows to name.

Jones has already begun life at Steboneath Park, having played in the 4-3 victory over Premier League side Aberystwyth Town, as well as the narrow 2-0 defeat to League Two side Yeovil Town, on their one-week tour of South Wales.

The Swansea-born attacker played seven times for Swansea City before leaving the club to play for sides like Cambridge United, Grimsby Town, Neath, The New Saints, Gloucester City and Port Talbot Town.

Jones was part of the Neath side that qualified for the UEFA Europa League qualifiers, in a season where he won he Welsh Premier League Young Player of the Year award, as well as being part of the Welsh Premier League Dream Team in both the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 season.

His time in the Welsh Premier League saw him 12 times in 198 appearances in Wales’ top division for three sides.

It is believed Jones was a man in demand having left Aberystwyth Town earlier this year as he joined Afan Lido but his two weeks in training with the club have been enough to earn him a place in Llanelli Town’s Division One squad for the 2017/2018 season.

Llanelli released a statement on the signature of Jones and described what he will add to the playing squad in West Wales.

“The Reds have strengthened their squad ahead of their start of their pre-season games this week by beating off liked clubs to sign former Swansea City player Chris Jones.

Chris has a wealth of experience and will be a great addition to our club.”

The clubs next friendly is away to Goodwick United this coming Saturday as they prepare for their season opener against Taffs Well.
