Ton Pentre strengthen squad as local trio arrive at Ynys Park

Ton Pentre have announced three new summer recruits to the first team squad for the upcoming Welsh League season.

A further three new players have arrived at Ynys Park following the club’s announcement last week that Leon Jacka had returned to the Rhondda valleys club.

The club announced the news on Wednesday evening as they continue their pre-season preparations with an away fixture to Swansea University tomorrow at their Sketty Lane home.

Nathan Facey, Ryan Griffiths and Josh Toomey have all agreed to feature for the Bulldogs in the 2017/2018 season under manager Lee Phillips.

Nathan Facey arrives at the club from South Wales Alliance Premier Division side Merthyr Saints having played a pat in the clubs third placed finish last season.

The winger has Welsh League experience following five seasons with Welsh Premier League side Cardiff Metropolitan University, where he won each Welsh League divisional title.

One of Facey’s team mates has also joined up with the winger as young striker Josh Toomey, a 19 year-old joins having had a loan spell at Merthyr Saints whilst on loan from his parent club Merthyr Town.

Ton Pentre have also recruited a new goalkeeper as they sign Pontypridd Town shot-stopper Ryan Griffiths after being in between the sticks for a majority of the season as the Dragons finished fourth in Division Two, narrowly missing out on promotion.

Griffiths has also played for Ton Pentre’s rivals Cambrian & Clydach, where he saved a penalty from experienced Welsh League footballer Kris Leek in a League Cup match.

As well as playing for Pontypridd, Griffiths has also played for Southern League Premier side Merthyr Town, offering English lower-league experience to the squad.

Ton Pentre finished 12th in the Division last season as they steered away from the relegation zone towards the end of last season and these signings may push the Bulldogs to go one step further.

All three have already donned the colours of Ton Pentre for the club as they drew 2-2 with Division Three side Treharris Athletic Western in a pre-season friendly.
