Aberystwyth Town look to the two Declan’s as Carroll and Walker sign

Neville Powell has made his first two signings since becoming Aberystwyth Town boss as Declan Carroll and Declan Walker both join him at Park Avenue.

Both have had Premier League experience which is what the former Bangor boss has been on the lookout for as he looks to add to his youthful side.

It's a reunion for Powell and recent-signing Declan Walker who joins the club having spent three seasons with the Citizens under the guidance-ship of new boss.

Walker has non-league experience for Vanarama National League side Wrexham, where he made 21 appearances for the Dragons back in the 2012/2013 season.

The Republic of Ireland U19 international operates as a right-back and in his first season of Welsh football, he was named in the Welsh Premier League's Team of the Season. With 61 Welsh top flight appearances to his name, it's the experience at the back that Neville Powell has required.

He looks to be an apt replacement for Daniel Alfei who left the club in the summer to go on trial with Merthyr Town, before signing for English Football League Two side Yeovil Town.

Joining Walker at Aberystwyth is another Declan, Declan Carroll. The 24 year-old originally signed for Haverfordwest County this summer following a departure from Carmarthen Town but came up against his former side the Bluebirds in pre-season as Aber ran out 4-1 winners.

Carroll began his career with Pembrokeshire League side Tenby AFC before moving to Haverfordwest County back in 2011. His performances for the Bluebirds would earn him a move to Aberystwyth in the summer of 2012 although he would later return to Aber's Mid Wales rivals  not long after.

The midfielder has 85 appearances to his name in the Welsh top flight, scoring 10 goals and will be seen as one of the players to look to as an experienced head for the coming season.
