Maurice-Jones believes win could kick start season
Eddie Maurice-Jones knows that his Denbigh side have been disappointing so far this season, but knows a victory over Llandudno Junction could be the catalyst to kick start their Huws Gray Alliance season.
The Denbigh boss is expecting a very tough game against newly promoted side Llandudno Junction, but believes with hard work they can be victorious.
“Like every Cymru Alliance game this season we are expecting a very tough encounter. The competitiveness of the league has already been illustrated in the early stages. Llandudno Junction are a newly promoted side and will show no fear as they will go into most games with no pressure as they will be considered the under dogs. I am sure they will be a very strong team to play against. We will have to work hard to stay composed and remain focused on our performance and be patient.”
After a loss to Caernarfon last time out in the league, Maurice-Jones knew his side had to be better when they traveled to Bangor on the Tuesday Night and he felt his side competed with the JD Welsh Premier League outfit.
“Caernarfon was always going to be a challenge particularly as we had players unavailable, but I want to take nothing away from the exceptional play and ruthlessness of Caernarfon, they thoroughly deserved their result. We knew we had to be better for the Bangor match and I felt for a large period of the game we competed and met the standards set. The introduction of Steve Cunningham and the return of the suspended Craig Pritchard helped to strengthen the squad and we did show some improvement. Where we lost concentration towards the end we were punished, therefore we now have to focus on consistency throughout the game.”
The former Gresford boss knows a win against Llandudno Junction could be a turning point for his side.
“Yes, we’ve had disappointing results of late and a win against Llandudno Junction would be encouraging and would build confidence in a team which is frustrated. They know they can perform better and I am confident that the results will come if we play to our strengths and capabilities.”
Maurice-Jones admits he’s a big admirer of new signing Ste Cunningham and he believes with the addition of his calibre, it will bring some balance and quality to the team.
“I have been a big admirer of Steve Cunningham over the years and have tried to sign him previously. He brings experience and strength to the squad and he has a natural understanding of the game. Steve will add quality and balance to the team, his work rate is of the highest level and will suit our philosophy.”
No doubt that the Denbigh fans and coaching staff alike will be hoping Cunningham can make an instant impact this weekend.
