Ex-Flint man Ryan Hedges earns Wales call up

An alumni of Huws Gray Alliance side Flint Town United has been called up to the Wales squad for its two remaining World Cup 2018 qualifying games.

Ryan Hedges, who played for Flint’s academy and first team, has been summoned to Chris Coleman’s Wales squad for its games against Georgia and the Republic of Ireland after the withdrawal of Norwich player Marley Watkins due to injury.

Hedges came through the ranks of Flint’s U19s squad before his talents landed him in the first team during the 2012/13 season, helping the side to a sixth place finish.

After earning caps for Welsh Schools U18s, he was snapped by Swansea City and became a regular for Wales U19s during his time at the Liberty Stadium.

He was loaned to Leyton Orient where he made his Football League debut before joining his current club Barnsley FC.

Away from their link to Wales’ vital qualifiers, Flint Town host Llanfair United in the JD Welsh Cup round one on Saturday afternoon for a 2:30pm kick off.
