Lido make double signing in Cann and Griffiths from division rivals
Afan Lido have confirmed tonight the double signing of goalkeeper Steve Cann and forward Andre Griffiths ahead of this weekend’s game against Cambrian and Clydach Boys and Girls Club.
Lido have won four of their seven league games this season, sitting in the middle of the pack, and the double signing of the experienced Cann at one end, amplified by the addition of Ton Pentre midfielder Griffiths, could help steer Liam McCreesh’s side to the upper echelons of the table.
Chris Curtis has been a key figure in the Lido side this term, but has now departed the club. Curtis is a fans favourite at the club having been a member of the Lido squad since their promotion winning season to the Welsh Premier League, and despite two departures in that time, the shot stopper has always returned to the Port Talbot outfit. Inevitably, his departure will leave many fans disappointed to.
But, with the signing of Cann, the club have a more than ample replacement. Cann was a teammate of manager McCreesh’s during the duo’s time at Port Talbot. The number one is an experienced keeper, having been a figurehead for Port Talbot Town and most recently Briton Ferry Llansawel. Cann joined Ferry back in the summer of 2016, but will now likely slot into Lido’s goal with immediate effect.
Griffiths, on the other hand, joins the club from Welsh Football League Division One side Ton Pentre. The Bulldogs find themselves afoot the table currently and the loss of Griffiths will no doubt be more bad news for the Valleys outfit.
The dynamic midfielder will no doubt aid Lido’s attacking threat and will hopefully be able to provide an attacking menace that will aid Mark Jones’ goalscoring exploits.
The youngster broke into the first team at Ynys Park in 2013/14 and has remained a key name on the team sheet ever since, and so his loss will leave a bittersweet taste for the Rhondda side who oversaw his development.
Both are expected to be in the squad for the league match against Cambrian this weekend, as Lido seek to climb up the Welsh Football League Division One table.
