Bala Town complete double signing of Altrincham duo John Disney and Lewis Short

Former Welsh Premier League full-backs John Disney and Lewis Short have returned to Wales’ top flight, as they join Bala Town from Altrincham.

The pair joins from the Northern Premier League after making the move from the Deeside Stadium to Moss Lane in the summer.

Both Disney and Short linked up with the first team squad after receiving international clearance from both the Football Association and the Football Association of Wales.

Bala Town originally only planned to sign John Disney but Lewis Short also enquired to join the Lakesiders, which Colin Caton could not turn down.

“It’s great to sign Lewis, once we signed John, Lewis made contact with us to see if we would be interested as he is good mates with John and we couldn’t turn that opportunity down.” said Caton who was speaking to Bala’s official website.

“Lewis has been an outstanding performer over the seasons in the Welsh Premier with Connah’s Quay and Airbus and he will add pace to the squad as he can play as a defender or as a forward wide man.”

Disney was a prominent starter in Alty’s pre-season schedule but an ankle injury in their final fixture with Trafford saw him miss a majority of the half season. He has however played competitively against Nantwich and Coalville but the ankle injury returned, costing him four months of the season.

Short has made more appearances out of the two, but like Disney picked up an injury which has seen him put on the sidelines. Altogether Short made sixteen appearances for the Robins, starting thirteen and making three substitute opinions during his time in North England.

Altrincham released a statement on their official website wishing the two players well as they move on to pastures new.

“Altrincham Football club thanks John and Lewis for their services at The J.Davidson Stadium and wishes both players better fortune with injuries in their new careers with the Lakesiders, who are currently in third place in the League, with every chance of qualifying for Europe in 2018″.

John can operate as both a right-back or a centre back in defence, as well as slot into a central midfield role. Short is predominantly a left-back and his ability to take a long throw has been considered one of his key traits.
