Connah’s Quay sign ex-Rhyl man Rob Hughes

Connah’s Quay Nomads have signed ex-Rhyl and Prestatyn midfielder Rob Hughes after his return from a spell in Australia.

Hughes, a well known face in North East Wales thanks to his fiery style of play, has returned to Welsh game after a spelll at Goulbourn Valley Suns where he made 25 appearances, scoring 12 goals.

He has previous JD Welsh Premier League experience, having scored eight times in 45 starts and 21 substitute appearances at both Rhyl and Prestatyn.

Hughes will be reunited with Nomads’ recently appointed first team coach Neil Gibson, who he worked with at Prestatyn Town.

The 25 year-old will wear the shirt number 21 and is awaiting international clearance ahead of Nomads’ phase two opener against Bala Town at Deeside, streamed live by S4C on Facebook.

Connah’s Quay manager Andy Morrison said:

“We’re delighted to sign Rob – he’s a player that I have admired for many years and have tried to sign in the past. Gibbo [Neil Gibson] brought it to our attention that Rob was back in the UK and played a major role is Rob joining us over a list of other Welsh Premier League suitors.”
