An insight into the Bangor City youngsters pushing for a first team berth

Bangor City cruised into the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup on Sunday as they romped to a 7-0 win over Penydarren, but it was a proud day for two Citizens youngsters also.

Bangor City with half an hour left brought on highly rated youngster Guto Williams, alongside Gethin Thomas for his professional debut, with Thomas winning a penalty to confirm Zama’s hatrick.

Since the arrival of former Cardiff City U23s Manager Kevin Nicholson, the Citizens have brought inexperienced players, as well as blooding through young Welsh talent.

So just who are these Bangor City starlets that could become a mainstay for the Citizens?

Meet the next crop of Bangor City players who could guide the club to success, under the forward-thinking Kevin Nicholson.

Guto Williams

Williams is the story of the season in terms of academy players making the step up into the first team. The young defender has made 11 senior appearances this term. He began with the U16s side but has continued to grow. Guto was part of the U19s side that claimed the U19 Welsh Premier Development League title last term. His performances this season has caught the eye of Wales ‘C’ team manager Mark Jones who has named him as one of the trainee players who will train with the squad ahead of their match with England.

“It is a tremendous honour to represent your country at any level, Guto has represented the Under-18 Academy side internationally recently, so he’ll know what is expected of him, and I’m so pleased that he’s been given the opportunity to get involved in a senior level camp.” said Bangor City manager Kevin in an interview with WPL.Cymru.

Gethin Thomas

Llanrug born Gethin Thomas as mentioned made his professional debut for the club in the Citizens 7-0 victory over Penydarren in the Quarter-Final stage. Thomas has been described as a skilful player by Bangor City and has had success with the Citizens, through their reserve team when they claimed the Reserves League title back in 2016/2017.
