Highly rated referee Cheryl Foster earns World Cup qualifier call up
A Huws Gray Alliance referee has been appointed to officiate a women’s World Cup qualifier.
Cheryl Foster, who is regularly found in the middle for tier two games, will be part of a refereeing team for Croatia v Hungary in Group 4 of the FIFA women’s World Cup qualifiers next month.
Foster is a former professional, having played for Liverpool Ladies FC and Wales, winning an all time record 63 caps at senior women’s international level.
She retired from football in 2013, but remained in the game by taking up refereeing, enjoying equal success as a referee.
A FIFA accredited official, she has been involved with a number of high level games including the UEFA U17 women’s Championship and took charge of the 2016 women’s Welsh Cup final.
Recognised as Wales’ leading female official, she earns regular praise for her performance in the midfield from fans who have tipped her to become a JD Welsh Premier referee.
