Chris Hugh could be “Welsh Premier League player of the season,” insists Wales C manager Mark Jones
Wales C manager Mark Jones couldn’t speak highly enough of Barry Town United’s Chris Hugh in the aftermath of their narrow loss to England C after his dazzling display at Jenner Park.
Hugh showed his class and endeavour as he helped Wales C back into a game when they looked out of it after Fejiri Okenababirhie had added his second goal of the evening from the penalty spot. Albeit in controversial fashion as it looked as though Hugh, who was the offender had made contact outside the penalty area.
Jones, though, was thrilled with the display of the Barry Town United full-back, who provided the assist for substitute Mark Jones’ goal, to cut the deficit to 2-1 at the time.
“If I was a gambling man, I would put good money on him being Welsh Premier League player of the year,” he admitted.
He went on to heap further commendation on Hugh, who was phenomenal going forward and defensively on Tuesday evening.
“He just keeps galloping, he adds loads of quality and he is one of them easy to deal with players.”
He will now hope to help Barry sustain their astonishing Phase Two form in the JD Welsh Premier League as they aim to maintain their 100% record in Phase Two of the competition.
He is arguably the best full-back in the league and he could play a key part in helping Barry compete for that elusive place in the playoffs come to the end of the season as they aim for a dream return to Europe.
The only problem for Barry now is to ensure to keep hold of the Welsh full-back, who will surely be subject to strong interest in the summer transfer window.
Jones went further on to say: “You don’t get a peek out of him in training, bar a laugh or two in training, and then he goes and produces a performance like that. He is a credit to Barry and to himself. I think he could play a lot higher, as well, and that isn’t any disrespect to us. He is a wonderful player.”
