Hill looking forward to “the big one” as Reds host Haverfordwest County on Tuesday

First meets third this Tuesday as Llanelli Town host Haverfordwest County at Stebonheath Park in the Welsh League Division One. Andy Hill’s men are unbeaten in four, and could go six points clear of second-placed Penybont with a win. A win for County would see them close the gap to six points, with two games still in hand over the Reds.

With only one side being able to gain promotion to the Welsh Premier League, tomorrow’s game will go a long way to deciding who that one team is.

Penybont occupy second spot, however they’ve played five games more than Llanelli, and seven more than Haverfordwest. With Afan Lido stuttering in recent weeks, it looks as if these two sides will battle it out for promotion, something which Reds boss Andy Hill agrees with: “We’re exactly where we want to be, it looks like it’s turned into a two-horse race. Tuesday night is the big one.”

Llanelli have been impressive in recent weeks, recording four consecutive wins, and Hill believes that a win on Tuesday will send out a big message: “If we beat Haverfordwest on Tuesday night it would probably be the biggest statement of the season.”

The FAW are set to announce the clubs that will be eligible for promotion in the coming days, and Hill is confident that the Reds have done everything required: “Things are looking great behind the scenes, most boxes are ticked and the club are wrapping it all up this week. Some key staff have worked tirelessly to make it happen, namely Wayne Stephens.”

When the two sides met earlier in the season, it was County who came out on top in a 3-1 success at the Bridge Meadow Stadium. However, Hill isn’t looking back at past games: “Previous results don’t mean anything. Tuesday night is the next hurdle we have to get over to get to that finishing line.”

The former Neath player is satisfied that his team are ready for the challenge that Haverfordwest will present: “We’re always aware of our opponents strengths and weaknesses through our scout reports, we’ll be fully prepared for Tuesday night.”
