James Davies astonished as goal sends Cefn Druids into Europa League

James Davies couldn’t believe his luck as his goal sent Cefn Druids into next season’s Europa League following a slender win over Cardiff Met at the Rock.

Davies scored mid-way through the first-half after he showed perseverance to tap-in from close range after his initial shot was excellently saved by Will Fuller in the Met goals.

And the attacker appeared to be star-struck at the full-time whistle after realising his goal booked a place for the Ancients in next season’s Europa League preliminary round. “It was unbelievable,”  he admitted.

“I didn’t even realise what was going to happen – the ball fell to my feet and I have just made a swing for it and it has ended up in the back of the net.”

“The boys have been excellent all season. I struggled to get in the team at the start of the season, but luckily Huw has now given me a chance towards the end of the season, and to repay him with the goal that sends us to Europe is incredible.”

“Our unity is unbelievable and we all get on really well. That definitely helps because we all want to play together and I think you saw that at the final whistle today.”

“I can’t even think about playing in Europe next season yet,” admitted Davies.

“This week I have been so nervous, I wasn’t sure what to do. I was just over thinking everything, but to get through it like that is amazing.”
