Bala Town sign experienced Tamworth defender Andrew Burns

Bala Town have further added to their squad with the addition of Tamworth defender Andrew Burns.

Burns was released by Tamworth last week and the Lakesiders have moved quickly to secure his signature, ahead of the 2018/2019 Welsh Premier League season. He can play both at right-back and at centre-back.

The 24-year-old who is Irish born has had spells with Bolton Wanderers, Bradford City, Dagenham and Redbridge before finding his feet with Barrow. At Barrow, he won Player of the Season, in their promotion-winning side to the National League, back in 2014/2015.

Burns was brought to Tamworth by former Wrexham boss Andy Morrell, where he spent a total of three years at The Lamb Ground, making 136 appearances.

“He has been a fantastic servant to the club,” said Tamworth boss Mike Fowler on Burns departure from the club to the Birmingham Mail.

“He has sweat blood and tears for Tamworth.

“He’s shown phenomenal levels of effort, his standards have been great and he was always the first in and last to leave.

“It was a tough decision to have to make because we have been together for a while and he is someone I consider to be a personal friend.”

Burns is the second defender that Bala have signed, following the signing of Bangor City captain Anthony Miley. The Lakesiders have also signed Witton Albion forward Craig Tames.
