Disney returns for second spell with Connah’s Quay Nomads
Connah’s Quay Nomads have confirmed that defender John Disney has returned for a second spell with the North Wales side.
The Irishman left the Nomads last July to link up with Altrincham, who were playing in the Northern Premier League at the time.
The 26-year-old began his career with Stockport, before going on to play for clubs including Chester, AFC Telford and Hednesford.
Speaking to the-nomads.co.uk on the move, Disney said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be back at The Nomads. After leaving last summer, I’ve kept in contact with both the players and the manager, and when the manager informed me that I hadn’t actually signed anything concrete at the end of last season, he offered me the opportunity to come back and I couldn’t turn that down.
The right-back played 46 times in his first spell at the Deeside Stadium.
Disney joins Michael Parker, Noah Edwards and Laurence Wilson in making the switch to the Nomads, who finished third in last season’s JD Welsh Premier League.
The Truro-born defender is joining a Nomads side which has had the meanest defence in the last two Welsh Premier League seasons: they’ve conceded only 53 goals in their last 64 league games.
The former Northwich Victoria player showed his excitement ahead of the new season: “With the club’s positive end to the season, I am really looking forward to getting back in with the lads for pre-season and hopefully have another successful trip in Europe and carry that momentum into the season.”
Manager Andy Morrison is pleased to have secured Disney’s return to the Nomads: “I’m personally delighted that ‘Dis’ has returned to the club – I’ve had a close relationship with John for over 10 years.
He rang me at Christmas time looking to return to the club after missing four months with an ankle injury during his time at Altrincham. I couldn’t guarantee him game time, so I suggested that he went and played games to get himself fit and then we could look at something at the end of the season.”
The Nomads will find out their UEFA Europa League Round One qualifying opponents on June 19.

Totally disappointed that you didn’t say “a fairytale return for Disney”. If I had had a subscription to your site I would cancel it in protest.
