Denbigh Town’s new management duo unveil new signings

After the recent departure of former manager Eddie Maurice-Jones, Denbigh Town have begun preparations for next season with an influx of new talent.

New management duo Dewi and Matthew Jones have signed several fresh faces for the club, after completing the first 12 months of their UEFA A License course.

Looking to bring in a blend of youth and experience, former Prestatyn Town player Ross Weaver joins the side; with the former Seasider having a number of Welsh Premier League performances that will provide optimism for the upcoming campaign.

Former Wrexham AFC youth team captain Scott McHarrie has also signed after seeking a fresh challenge, with the 18-year-old looking forward to working with the club to keep progressing as a player.

I captained the Youth Team and played for Wrexham Reserves and needed to continue to push on but needed the right club.” McHarrie said.

I have known Matty for a while now and after speaking to him feel Denbigh is the right move and hope I can progress here.

I am also very grateful for the chance to show what I can do and am looking forward to the challenge.

Another of the seven new faces includes former Rhyl FC midfielder Sam Downey. The 24-year-old has played for a number of clubs, securing high amounts of first team football across various countries, turning out for Gallivare Malmbergets FF in Sweden and Leiknir Reykavik in Iceland.

New manager Matthew Jones has worked closely with the player, welcoming his new signing with open arms: “We are delighted to have signed a player of Sam’s quality. Having worked with him last year I know exactly what he can bring to the squad and to the club as a whole”, said Jones.

A player with tremendous attitude and ability, a signing like this shows our intent and, yes, Dewi and I are very happy.

Left sided player Bailey Jackson has also joined the Reds, with the 21-year-old making the switch to Central Park from Airbus UK Broughton. The former Liverpool, Bolton and Tranmere Rovers academy player makes the change along with local signing Miles Todd, who transferred at the end of the last campaign from Llandyrnog United.

Another former player to make the switch back to Denbigh is experienced defender Tony Davies. Davies has played within the English system for clubs such as Ashton United and Marine, with the management duo adding some useful leadership along the back line.

We are delighted to have Tony sign”, Jones added. “He brings leadership and a winning mentality and will offer us solidarity at the back.”

Finally, a fan favourite in Mark Roberts has made a return to Denbigh Town, becoming the second player to make the switch from Llandyrnog. Scoring 63 goals across two seasons for the Welsh Alliance rivals, Roberts is a clinical striker that can find the net with either foot.

With a flurry of new signings at Central Park in this summer’s transfer window, it will be interesting to see if last seasons high finish can be repeated by the Reds in the next campaign.

It’ll be much more interesting to see if Denbigh push for a Tier 1 licence. Winning the championship is pretty meaningless if yuo don’t push for promotion.
