Barry Town United snap up Taffs Well ace Jones

Barry Town United have started their summer transfer business with the signing of Taffs Well creative midfielder Marcus Jones.

Jones has been a key member of the Taffs Well squad in recent years but has now linked up with the JD Welsh Premier League outfit as they prepare for their second season back in the top flight of Welsh football.

Jones spent six seasons at Welsh League Division One outfit Taffs Well but was persuaded by Gavin Chesterfield to swap Taffs for Barry as he has joined the club ahead of next season.

Chesterfield commented to BarryTownUnited on the signing, stating “I’m delighted to have brought Marcus to the club.

His tenacity, pace and quality will fit well into our squad and I know he’s up for the challenge that lies ahead. I’m looking forward to working with him and seeing his impact and development in the JD Welsh Premier League.”

Chris Hugh, Curtis Watkins, Drew Fahiya, Luke Cooper, Paul Morgan, Mike Lewis and Troy Greening have all put pen to paper in extending their stay with the club. Callum Sainty and James Demetriou have both departed the club, joining Hereford and Sydney Olympic respectively. Jones is the second signing to arrive at Jenner Park, following the arrival of Carmarthen Town midfielder Clayton Green.

In the club’s 32 games, the club achieved a remarkable 16 wins and five draws, ending the season with an impressive 53 points.

Last season, the club reached the semi-finals of the European playoffs in the Welsh Premier League but were comfortably defeated 4-1 by Cardiff Met.
